Congratulations to the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club on opening their new dedicated ice center in March 2022.
Ellenberger Architecture began working with the curling club in 2014, looking at several sites in the East Bay, preparing construction cost estimates, and designing curling facilities in a couple of existing warehouse buildings, as adaptive re-use projects. The club ultimately found a great home for their curling facility, at 8450 Enterprise Way in Oakland. The club successfully transformed a 1960’s era, 15,000 square-foot warehouse building, on a one-acre site, into the only ice center dedicated to curling in the Bay Area.
Thanks to the lead engineering design team members who provided excellent consulting services:
Structural Engineer: Jeff Weber, Coffman Engineers
Mechanical Engineer: Chris Del Core, Costa Engineers
Electrical Engineer: Dirk Hofheinz, DFH & Associates Electrical Engineering
Ice House Equipment Vendor: Everything Ice
Thanks to the general contractor, Angotti & Reilly, and their subcontractors for working tirelessly on finishing this unique and challenging project. Jeff Wieland at Angotti & Reilly was organized, thorough, and a pleasure to work with.
Thank you for the assistance, patience, and guidance from the many present and past curling club officers who I worked with throughout the design and construction journey, to see this ice center to fruition:

I look forward to seeing you on the ice!
